FlatGround trampolines for schools

A FlatGround trampoline sits level with the ground. BERG lists 5 grey Elite FlatGround models that we stock as approved for public use, from €1,349. Most are supplied without a safety net, and that matters for younger pupils.

What FlatGround means

The whole trampoline is set into the ground. The jump mat and its padded edge finish level with the grass around them, so there is no step up and nothing standing above the surface unless a net is fitted.

Like an InGround model it is a fixed feature. It needs groundwork, and once it is in it stays where it is.

Who it suits

  • A secondary school, or a setting whose users are aged 14 and over.
  • A school that wants the trampoline level with the ground and has a permanent spot that can be dug.
  • A primary school that chooses the Ultim 500 with a net. For primary-age pupils we suggest a model with a net.

The net question, exactly

  • The round FlatGround 330, 380 and 430 are supplied without a net. That is how they appear on BERG's public-use list.
  • The rectangular Ultim Elite FlatGround 500 is on the list both without a net and with the Safety Net Deluxe XL.
  • BERG recommends a safety net. Its home-use InGround manual goes further and does not recommend use without a net by children under 14.
  • The BERG public-use manual we hold is for the Elite InGround. We have not seen the one for FlatGround, so ask us for the manual for your model.

So for pupils under 14, look at the Ultim 500 with a net, or at an InGround or above-ground model with a net.

If you want a round FlatGround model for younger pupils, tell us. We send BERG's public-use manual for that model with your quotation, so your board and your insurer can read what BERG says before you decide.

What "approved for public use" means. BERG lists these grey Elite models as approved for public use, tested by the independent Dutch institute Keurmerkinstituut. The certificate we hold, for the Elite InGround 330 Grey + Safety Net Deluxe (no. 148394, inspected 24 January 2022), states that it meets the Dutch playground equipment decree, assessed against EN 1176-1:2017. See BERG's list of approved models.

The school or setting stays responsible for local rules, correct installation, warning notices, a daily check with a logbook, and maintenance. We send BERG's public-use manual and warning notice for your model with your quotation. Check with your insurer before you order.

BERG's rules for use

These are from BERG's public-use manual for the Elite InGround. Ask us for the manual for your model.

  • One user at a time. This is BERG's rule, not a suggestion.
  • An adult supervises whenever it is in use. BERG says it is not for unattended public use.
  • BERG does not recommend its trampolines for children under 6, and says they are not suitable under 3.
  • BERG recommends a safety net. Its home-use InGround manual goes further and does not recommend use without one by children under 14.
  • No shoes, a dry mat, and no somersaults.
  • Maximum user weight is 100 to 120 kg depending on size.

A trampoline that is level with the ground is easy to walk on to. That makes the one-at-a-time rule and the supervising adult matter more, not less, when other pupils are nearby.

The space and the surface it needs

BERG's public-use manual for the Elite InGround requires:

  • At least 2 metres clear of trees, fences and any other obstacle, all the way round.
  • At least 7 metres of clear height, measured from the ground.
  • A shock-absorbing surface 1.5 metres wide around the trampoline.
  • Not on concrete, asphalt or any other hard surface, and not close to other play equipment.

We have not seen BERG's public-use manual for the FlatGround models. Ask us for the manual for your model, and until you have it, plan on the same. Have your installer or a surfacing supplier cost the surface before you set a budget. Your insurer may ask for more, or for fencing.

Putting it in, and looking after it

A FlatGround trampoline needs groundwork and fitting by a competent installer who follows BERG's manual. BERG puts correct installation on the owner.

We do not install. We sell and deliver. If you want it fitted for you, we can put you in touch with an independent installer, and you agree the work and the price directly with them.

After that comes the upkeep. BERG's public-use manual for the Elite InGround requires adult supervision, a safety check every day written up in a logbook, and BERG's warning notice displayed near the trampoline. We send the manual and the notice for your model.

Questions about FlatGround trampolines

What is a FlatGround trampoline?

It is a trampoline set into the ground so that the jump mat and its edge sit level with the ground around it. There is no raised edge and nothing on legs.

Does a FlatGround trampoline need a safety net?

BERG recommends a safety net. Its home-use InGround manual goes further and does not recommend use without a net by children under 14. We have not seen BERG's public-use manual for the FlatGround models, so ask us for the manual for your model. For pupils under 14, we suggest a model with a net.

Which FlatGround models come with a net?

One of the models we stock: the rectangular Ultim Elite FlatGround 500 with the Safety Net Deluxe XL, at €2,569 on our shop. BERG's public-use list shows the round FlatGround 330, 380 and 430 without a net only.

We are a primary school. Which model should we look at?

One with a net. That means the Ultim Elite FlatGround 500 with the Safety Net Deluxe XL, or an InGround or above-ground Elite model with a net. The round FlatGround models are supplied without a net, and BERG recommends a safety net, so for primary-age pupils we suggest a model that has one.

How much does a FlatGround trampoline for a school cost?

On our shop the BERG Elite FlatGround models start at €1,349. Delivery is free. That is the price of the trampoline only. Groundwork, fitting and any surfacing around it are separate, and you agree them with whoever does the work.

Do you install FlatGround trampolines?

No. We sell and deliver. A FlatGround trampoline is set into the ground, so it needs groundwork and fitting by a competent installer who follows BERG's manual. We can put you in touch with an independent installer, and you agree the work directly with them.

What is the maximum user weight?

BERG gives 100 kg for the 330, 110 kg for the 380 and 120 kg for the 430, for one user. We have not seen BERG's figure for the rectangular Ultim 500, so ask us and we will get it.

On warranty: BERG's warranty is 1 year when a trampoline is used at a school or in any other public setting. The longer warranty advertised for home buyers does not apply. Read the school buying guide.
